Is AI Your Secret to Podcasting Success? I’ve had podcast ads on the brain as late. Particularly as more and more, I’m noticing more and more ads creeping into podcast episodes. Don’t get me wrong! Of course I want podcasters to find ways to successfully monetize their shows! The problem I have is that a lot of the ads I’m hearing, are just…well, they’re just not that good! 🫢 On the whole, podcasters need to switch up their mindsets when it comes to podcast ads. They’re not just an “add-on.” (Pun intended. Obviously.) If you’re looking to monetize your podcast through ads, they’re an intricate part of your podcast episode. (You can check out our study of some of the podcasts we think are absolutely acing the podcast ad game below for some serious ad inspo! 🤩) And the secrets to great podcast ads are really the secrets to all great content. However, a common mistake is thinking ads don’t need the same input as the rest of your content. But that just doesn’t add up! 😉 Most podcast ads require some kind of action from your audience. But you need to ✨inspire✨ that action!
And it’s not quite as easy as doing some trademark Jack Sparrow (excuse me, CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow! 🫢) finger-waggling. BUT when you have great ads, you make it that much easier to engage your listeners AND get the results you’re after. So today, I’m sharing the framework I use whenever I’m creating content. Sure, I use this for blogs and LinkedIn posts, but this is one versatile framework! And you can totally use it to create amazing podcast ads that not only resonate with your audience and add value 😉 to your episodes, but will also inspire action! 1. Know Your Audience Whenever you want to create engaging content, you have to start with your audience. Who are they? What are their interests? What problems do they face? You need to know your audience. Because then you can tailor your content – and in this case, your ads – to resonate with them and spark the response you’re after. 2. Be True to You Authenticity really is your superpower when it comes to content creation! And this is just as true when it comes to creating effective podcast ads. You have built up trust with your audience through the content you share. Keep that trust, and build upon it by only partnering with brands that align with you and your show’s values, and – most importantly – with your audience’s values and best interests. 3. Craft a Compelling Story You know I wouldn’t have a content creation framework that didn’t involve storytelling! And FUN FACT: Storytelling is GREAT for creating effective podcast ads! People love stories. And people remember stories far better than a list of features. So use your storytelling superpowers to craft ads that resonate! 4. Never Skimp on Quality And the final step in my content creation framework is to never skimp on quality. This is particularly important when it comes to your podcast ads! Remember, ads are ❌ not ❌ an add-on! So make sure your ads match the high production standards of the rest of your episodes. TAKEAWAY: Ads are a fantastic way to monetize your podcast. Founder's Corner The topic of “podcasters doing it right” got me thinking about podcasters diving head-first into the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI). 🤖 Now there are countless ways that podcasters are incorporating AI into their podcasting process. Everything from podcast production to data analysis, to promotional strategies – you name it! So, how can it work for you? Maximizing your time. Creating great quality content. Understanding your audience. Ultimately, AI can support the branded podcast journey by getting you to that “sweet spot” – where your podcast is more personalized, interactive, and engaging for your audience. Like I mentioned, there are many ways to incorporate AI into your podcasting process, but today I want to touch on three specific points. 1: Personalization aka *Data Analysis* Imagine a podcast episode that feels personal, created just for you, the listener. AI can detect the type of podcast content that listeners prefer, making it easier for podcasters to tailor their content to their audience's interests. Think Spotify Wrapped! 🤩 “A celebration of the real, the realer, and the realest listening moments that defined our year.” Podcasters can work with AI to make informed decisions when it comes to their content and their marketing strategies, ensuring they reach the right audience. AI systems can also look at ⭐️comments and reviews⭐️ to see how well the content is resonating with your audience. This feedback loop is invaluable! Allowing you to continuously refine your podcast strategy. 2. High-Value Content Creation You’ve heard it before and I’ll say it again (and again!)...creating compelling and engaging content is the key to successful podcasting. Although AI prompts don’t replace human creativity, they can enhance it by providing data-backed suggestions. These suggestions can then be used to create relevant topics for your podcast episodes. From that starting point, you can simply add your unique view and creative touch to create a compelling narrative that's true to you for your episodes. Using this listener data, you can maximize your ad effectiveness through optimized ad targeting and messaging.
