#173: Taking a Podcast Break Over Summer? Here's How To Do It Right!

Taking a Podcast Break over Summer? Here's How To Do It Right!

Summer is officially upon us! ☀️

(Like actually official. Because, fun fact, today just happens to be the summer solstice, the official first day of summer.)

So, summer is OFFICIALLY here and that means one thing…summer vacation! 🤩

A summer vacation is all about recharging and enjoying some well-deserved rest. But if you’re a podcast host, what do you do? Can you take a break from your podcast over the summer? Should you? 🤔

The truth is, taking a break from your podcast is a risk…you don’t want to lose your momentum. And you definitely don’t want to lose your audience.

Now, that doesn’t mean you can’t ever take a podcast break! 😅

You just have to do it right! And we can help! We know a thing or two about helping podcasters on their journey to podcast success. 😉

So here are our 3 key strategies for keeping your momentum and your audience…even when you’re on a break! 🏝️

1. Batch Record Your Episodes

The easiest way to keep your momentum while you’re taking a podcast break is for it to seem like you’re not on a break! By pre-recording several episodes and scheduling them to release during your break, you get a well-deserved vacation, and your audience still gets their regular dose of content. A win-win! 🏆(We love those!)

2. Stay Engaged

You can easily stay connected with your audience through social media and email newsletters, even while you’re globe-trotting. Share behind-the-scenes content, teasers for upcoming episodes, or even just some fun updates from your break. Again, a lot of this type of content can be scheduled beforehand. Another win-win. (And you know how we feel about those! 😉)

And Strategy Number 3…

3. Communicate Your Plans Clearly

However you decide to take a break, the key is to communicate what's going on to your listeners. Add announcements to your episodes or your social media channels, or even record a special “I’m on a break!” episode. This is a really effective way to take that well-earned break, while still keeping your audience enticed and engaged. And most importantly, eagerly awaiting your return!

Final take-away…before you get away! ✈️

Taking a break is important for your creativity and your well-being, and we are BIG advocates of prioritizing that downtime! But we also know that you’ve put a whole lot of yourself into launching your podcast, and you don’t want to lose all the momentum and the audience you’ve worked so hard for!

But with a little careful planning and these 3 strategies, you can take that break... without breaking your show’s momentum!

And that’s another win-win. 😉
