So today, we wanted to share 5 simple mistakes we see podcasters make – so you don’t have to!

1. Overcomplicating Their Setup 🎙️

Many podcasters think they need the most expensive gear or complex setups to produce a high-quality show. But this can be a big, costly, mistake right out the gate! A simpler setup can often yield the same results with less stress…and far less cost!

2. Ignoring Room Acoustics 🙉

Even the fanciest set-up can’t fix poor room acoustics! A common podcasting mistake is to put all your focus on how your recording space looks, without focusing on how your space sounds. Poor acoustics can make even the best equipment sound subpar, leading to poor audio quality. An absolute no-no in our books!

3. Not Finding Their Own Voice 🗣️

Some podcasters get caught up in imitating successful shows instead of developing their unique style and perspective. Don’t make this mistake! Trying to be or sound like someone else will make your content feel less authentic, and may even prevent you from connecting deeply with your audience. Definitely not what you want!

4. Underestimating the Importance of Show Notes ✍️

Show notes are more than just a simple summary of an episode. They’re a valuable SEO tool and a way to engage listeners further. Many podcasters make the mistake of seeing show notes as an “add on” if and when they have time for them. Don’t do this! Make show notes a part of your podcasting process (or outsource that process to save you all that time! 😉) and you won’t make this podcasting mistake!

5. Not Prioritizing Audience Engagement 📣

And finally, Major Podcasting Mistake Number 5 - not prioritizing audience engagement. Too many podcasters focus all their attention on their actual show that they forget to engage with their audience. But genuine audience engagement will help you create a loyal podcast community. And that is key to your show’s success!
